6.3. Communicating Risk

Hillson (2012) argues that the problem with communicating risk is that there are a number of different stakeholders who need to be kept informed, but that they need varying levels of information. This is confirmed by the Engineering Council (2011) who points to shortcomings in communication being present in nearly all cases where there is a failure in the management of risk. Communicating effectively with all stakeholders is important to ensure that risks and their implications are understood properly. Within an organisation risk management should be communicated as a core value. Therefore, “it is essential to make sure that information associated with risks flows vertically and horizontally throughout the organisation” (Hung, 2012 p.80)
